Roz McCall MSP, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Member of the Scottish Parliament for MidScotland and Fife, has criticised the SNP government’s proposal to reduce the national speed limit for single carriageway roads to 50mph.
Roz has accused SNP ministers of neglecting Scotland’s roads, that after nearly two decades in power, the SNP have monumentally failed to invest in infrastructure. Rather than addressing these problems, the proposed 50mph speed limit appears to punish motorists for SNP inaction, rather than delivering the road safety improvements drivers deserve.
Roz has also emphasised that these plans will slow Scotland down - a further hinderance on economic productivity and disrupting rural and local communities that rely heavily on efficient transport links. Lower speed limits, without addressing the root issue of unsafe and poorly maintained roads, risk increasing travel times and further frustrating drivers already dealing with the SNP’s inadequate infrastructure investment.
Roz McCall MSP said:
“The SNP have shamefully neglected our road network for years, failing to provide the upgrades needed to make our roads safer.”
“Now, rather than taking real action to protect drivers, they want to punish motorists with an arbitrary reduction in speed limits.”
“Scotland’s roads should be safe and efficient for everyone, but this plan fails to address the underlying issues. “
“I urge Fiona Hyslop to scrap these proposals and focus on delivering long-overdue road upgrades. Motorists in Scotland deserve better.”
